We are going to WDW in August and plan on seeing the Fantasmic at DHS at 8:30pm. When do they open the gates and allow you to enter the arena before the show? And is the area shaded, or while waiting are you sitting in the sun? Thank you!

    Hi LouAnn!
Fantasmic is incredibly popular so you are going to have lots of company both in line and in the amphitheater. Many guests actually start to line up anywhere from 60-90 minutes before showtime. I know this sounds crazy, but people do it. Since it is August, though, there is a possibility of 2 shows on that night. If so, you may want to consider the night's second show as it tends to be less crowded. Either way, there is going to be some waiting involved. For the 8:30 show, gates typically open about 30 minutes before show time, but if you show up at 8 you will find a massive line.
If you are near the front of the line, there are a few shaded areas, but as the line grows, you are waiting on the street along Sunset Boulevard and in the sun. It can get somewhat uncomfortable. Even so, the show is SO worth it. If you are asking if the amphitheater is shaded while you wait for the show to start, the answer is no, it is an open air amphitheater.
I hope this helps andI wish you a Magical trip!! :)
