Is there a water park at Fort Wilderness - I saw what I thought was one on our last boat ride at night?

    Hi Allen,

Yes, you saw right but it is not operational any more.  This water park was called River Country and I have many, many fond memories camping at Fort Wilderness Campground and swimming there as a child.  It was a real shame when it closed many years ago now but now there are 2 new huge water parks, one is called Typhoon Lagoon and the other is Blizzard Beach and both are located within Walt Disney World.  I am sure you have heard of these two water parks though!  Hopefully, one day what used to be River Country will somehow make a comeback.....that is my hope anyways as it was so much fun.  You can see the remnants of River Country from the boats when sailing by as well as Discovery Island which once used to house many tropical birds and small animals that you used to be able to pay a small fee and sail out to for a nice day of bird watching and learning many interesting facts about them and their little friends. For the nature lover in me, this was also one of my favorite places to visit although it has also been closed now for many years but you can still see some interesting birds who still call this island home when you sail by on your way to the Contemporary Resort, Wilderness Lodge or to Magic Kingdom.  I hope you have a magical day!

    Best wishes,
