I am wanting to participate in the 5K Family Run, but not sure if I can do the 15 minute mile. Can you walk during this run or is this a timed event? If I can't walk, is there another event I can participate in? Thanks

Hi Kathy!  You definitely should do the 5K!  There will be lots of walkers in the Family Fun race.  There are some that even walk the entire half marathons and full marathons.

The actual pace requirement is a 16/minute mile pace.  And the pacers will begin after the last of the stroller division begins (they will be the last group), so if you aren't in that division you will have some extra time to add to the overall race time limit.

I think you will be surprised at how well you can do that pace.  If you train on a treadmill, that would be around 3.7 miiles per hour.  Just start training now, I know you can do it!  You could go a little faster at times, and then slow down at others. You will probably even want to stop to get some photos along the way!

The 5K is not a timed event.  You won't have a chip-timer or anything like that.  They will just have pacers come up along the end of the race going at a 16/minute mile pace.

Mostly, I want to emphasize that it is REALLY a family event.  There will be kids, adults, and seniors of all ages participating.  It's completely pressure free!

Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you!
