Hi, I am wanting to book a cruise, but I wanted to know if any of the character experiences were going to be different because of Covid, also if we would have to wear a mask on the ship?

    Ahoy Alyssa!

We are thrilled to have you visit us at planDisney for the first time! Having you here means one thing: you are thinking about taking a Disney cruise. Cruising with Captain Mickey is quite possibly one of my favorite travel experiences, and I’ve fortunately had a number of MAGICal journeys. I WISH the same for you and your family as you plan to take an adventure at sea with Disney Cruise Line.

Speaking of the Big Cheese himself, he is working overtime trying to sort out the procedures that will be used for voyages from US ports, and once a decision is made, he will make sure Guests are aware of any changes. Here’s what we know Disney Cruise Line will be implementing for the Disney Magic at Sea itineraries sailing from the UK, which may or may not be the same for cruises from the U.S.

-Face coverings are required for all Guests and Crew Members and will be required at all times, with the exceptions of dining, swimming, or staying in your stateroom.

-Masks may be temporarily removed while eating, drinking, or taking an outdoor photo. During these times, Guests must be stationary and maintain physical distancing.

-As for character experiences, they will look a tad different but still be bountiful in true Disney style! The Experience Updates for Disney Magic at Sea voyages says that interactions will take place from a safe distance and autographs have been temporarily paused. But you can expect the Disney characters will make surprise appearances and be able to pose for photos.

This does not mean that these will definitely be the rules when you sail with Disney Cruise Line, and let me be clear that no new procedures have been announced yet. But I would expect both face coverings and distanced character interactions in some form or fashion. I recommend that you go ahead and make your cruise reservations and then as protocols are updated, you can decide whether the safety measures are acceptable to you.  Just be sure to do that well before the cancellation fees come into play.

Keep checking the Disney Cruise Line website for updated information and to find out just how the Book with Confidence program works, specifically when it comes to having extended final payments, a new cancellation fee schedule, cruise date flexibility, and a flexible refund policy.

I’m sorry that I don’t have any more definitive information for you. But I will be here to answer any additional questions you might have and would love to be of assistance, especially if it means you might decide to set sail on an adventure at sea. That would make my day!

    SEA ya real soon!
