I wanted to know, how many points do you normally need to redeem for a one week vacation trip. Staying at a hotel.

Hi there, Jason! Thanks for making a return trip to planDisney, where we're always ready and waiting to help make Guests' Disney vacations as magical as can be. Let's discuss how Disney Vacation Club points add up to some amazing Disney adventures!

Many families choose to join DVC to guarantee that they can stay in deluxe-level accommodations during their Disney vacations. Before we became Members, we stayed in several of the deluxe Resort Hotels and loved them all! As we researched the benefits of Membership, it became apparent that we could continue to enjoy the amenities of a deluxe resort AND have access to even more Disney Vacation Club properties beyond our home base of Walt Disney World Resort.

Jason, the number of Vacation Points required for a weeklong trip varies between resorts, time of year, and which type of accommodations you choose. You can see the specific point values by taking a gander at the handy Points Charts on the DVC website--these are currently available for 2024 and 2025. This is always my first stop when I'm dreaming of my next Disney getaway.

To give you a general idea, let's look at 2025 stays at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, our family's Home Resort.

    • If we plan to stay in a Lake View Deluxe Studio, a one-week stay in September 2025 requires 143 Vacation Points
    • For a summer stay in the same studio (June 11-August 31), we need 174 points.
    • If we hope to ring in the New Year from our balcony at the Polynesian, this studio is now 291 points for a weekly stay, reflecting the extremely high crowd levels at Walt Disney World during the December holidays.
The takeaway here is that if you're considering joining Disney Vacation Club, it's important to think about when you typically take your vacations and what type of accommodations you want to stay in. This is a big help when deciding how many Vacation Points you need to allow you to travel the way you want to.

I hope this information is helpful for your fact-finding purposes, Jason! If I can offer any other insights from a Member perspective, please reach out directly anytime. Thanks again for stopping by planDisney!
