I wanted to know, how will character greetings go once cruising starts again? My daughter really want to hug or high five her favorite characters but I know that might not be possible.

    Welcome aboard, Nicholas!

ARRRen't you excited about sailing on the Disney Dream? I agree with your daughter that Character Greetings are definitely one of the Disney touches that make cruising with Disney Cruise Line so special! What I wouldn’t give to be able to hug one of the characters or give them a high five right now!

Although Captain Mickey has not set forth the new pirate code to follow when cruising resumes, I’ll bet that he and his amazing crew are working hard making everything shipshape. Soon he will be able to say, “Bring me that horizon!” Yo ho, won’t that be an exciting day when adventures on the high seas resume?

Disney Cruise Line is nautical miles ahead of the other pirate ships in so many ways, and the health and safety of Guests and crew are just one of many areas where the fleet excels. I’m confident that whatever the decision is, when the Jolly Roger is raised we can still expect the high caliber of activities and entertainment that’s the hallmark of Disney cruising.

I’m trying to use Captain Jack Sparrow’s compass to help me on this one, but as you know, his compass can be a little unpredictable! My best GUESS is that Disney Cruise Line will likely follow what Walt Disney World is doing during its initial phased reopening. I expect to SEA characters from a distance in special spots on the ships, but I am not anticipating traditional character greetings. Then again, I could totally be off base, and they will ask me to walk the plank! But I think that Walt Disney World may forecast in a sense what might happen for Disney Cruise Line. To know for certain, keep a weather eye on the Disney Parks Blog for updated information.

Here's what I would do: once Disney Cruise Line has announced its plans, I would talk to my kids and set the expectation going in IF the characters need to social distance during our sailing. My kiddos have always been understanding that some things have to be done for safety reasons...like the muster drill and life vests. Isn’t it amazing how resilient kids are? They can adapt to far more than we give them credit for.

Since ships are currently scheduled to sail in the fall, we can all hope that the next few months bring a remarkable improvement in conditions, and our beloved characters will then be ready at some point to meet and greet their biggest fans.
