Can you walk from Magic Village Yards to Animal Kingdom Lodge and / or Animal kingdom buses? For marathon weekend can we use the resort buses to get to Epcot if we are staying off property to get to the starting line in the mornings?

    Hey there, Cindy!

Welcome to planDisney! I am so glad you stopped by with your marathon weekend questions. Visiting The Most Magical Place on Earth during a runDisney event can mean a little extra planning, and you're off to a great start by mapping out travel logistics. Let's go over using Walt Disney World Resort transportation during Marathon Weekend, and some alternative options you may consider.

Cindy, I did some research, and it looks like a stroll from Magic Village Yards to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge would take about 30 minutes on foot. And this route will have restricted paths and private roads not meant for Guest access. Additionally, it is important to note that when arriving at the gate of Animal Kingdom Lodge, you will be asked for a hotel or dining reservation confirmation number to access the resort. I also want to mention that during busy seasons, Cast Members may ask to scan a MagicBand or Key to the World card for access to Disney transportation. But Hakuna Matata! I have some alternative suggestions for getting around and getting to the big race!

The first thing I recommend is checking with your hotel to see what type of shuttle service they may offer. Be sure to inquire about any additional pickup/drop off hours they may have available during a race weekend. Should your hotel not offer shuttle service or the hours not line up with your itinerary, you are also welcome to drive to the designated parking areas for the event. Closer to the big day, you will receive a guide full of all the race details, including parking information and road closures. No car, no problem. You can also use a ride share like Lyft. Pro tip: I recommend scheduling a ride in advance and planning additional travel time. Road closures and heavy traffic will increase the time it takes to get to your destination. You will also want to keep an eye on the Marathon Weekend website for updates!

I know this wasn't the answer you were wishing for, Cindy. But I hope these tips help you continue to plan for the best race ever!

    We'll be cheering you on!
