Welcome to planDisney, Mary! I'm so glad to be able to answer your question today. A last-minute trip to Walt Disney World for New Year's Eve sounds like so much fun, and I'm happy to let you know what to expect when buying tickets for this super popular day in the parks.
Unfortunately, tickets for
EPCOT and
Magic Kingdom on December 31 are no longer available, so you wouldn't be able to walk up and buy two EPCOT tickets just for that day, even as a
Florida Resident. Florida Resident status is awesome for special offers when they're available, but it doesn't override day-specific ticket availability once a date sells out.
There is some good news, though! At the time of this answer,
Disney's Animal Kingdom still has tickets and is scheduled to be open until 7:00 PM on New Year's Eve, and
Disney's Hollywood Studios also shows availability and is currently set to be open until midnight. We don't expect any special New Year's Eve events at Hollywood Studios, but they do typically have a midnight countdown. If either of those parts would scratch the itch, I'd recommend purchasing tickets immediately online in the
My Disney Experience app or on the Walt Disney World website. Inventory around the holidays can change quickly, and nothing is guaranteed until you check out.
If your heart was set on EPCOT's midnight fireworks and DJ parties, consider a different backup: lock in Hollywood Studios for the late hours to soak up the nighttime vibe, or spend the day at Animal Kingdom and then head to the
BoardWalk for festive resort ambiance and views of the World Showcase skyline from outside the park. You could also aim for a late dinner reservation at a monorail resort to keep the celebration going! Availability can be tight, but it's worth a peek. Also, keep refreshing park ticket availability just in case there's a last-minute drop. It's not guaranteed, so treat it as a happy surprise rather than the main plan.
Happy New Year, Mary, and have a magical day!
Jessica
