Hello, Damon! Welcome to planDisney!
Port Everglades is such a gorgeous port to sail from! I just sailed from there on board the Disney Destiny a few weeks ago, and the surrounding ocean views are absolutely stunning. It made for such a nice morning embarking on the ship, and we also ended up with perfect weather that day! I would be happy to answer your questions regarding walking to the Disney Cruise Line terminal in Port Everglades.
Port Everglades has a very convenient location as it’s a short distance from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and many nearby hotels. Three of these hotels are the ones Disney Cruise Line offers
Ground Transportation from, which are the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa, Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, and the Omni Fort Lauderdale.
To decide if you should walk to the port, I suggest taking into account a few factors:
- Terminal location: Disney Cruise Line ships sail from Terminals 2, 4, and 26. As I don’t know your arrival date, I’m not sure which terminal you're going to be sailing from. However, you can easily find the walking distance from your hotel to the cruise terminal and decide if it's feasible to walk there.
- Your travel party: Do you have younger children who might find it harder to walk there or strollers that you're handling? While you might not be looking at a super long walk, even very short distances can be difficult for younger kids. (Trust me, Damon, I speak from experience walking distances with my own kiddos!)
- Luggage you will be bringing with you: Can you easily transfer or roll your luggage during the walk? If you will be walking to the port, once you arrive, you will hand over your luggage to the kind porters who will have it delivered to your stateroom in the afternoon.
When I sailed out of Port Everglades, I found the easiest option was Disney Cruise Line Ground Transportation, and this is the option I will be using again soon. I was sailing with a large party, including a few younger children, so I knew that for us walking wasn’t the best option. Plus, I love the convenience of having Disney Cruise Line handle my luggage for me on embarkation day morning so that I don’t have to worry about it until I see it later on in my stateroom, as I find that it makes the morning go so much smoother.
If you would also like to reserve Disney Cruise Line Ground Transportation from any of the three hotels mentioned above, or the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, you can make the reservation by either calling Disney Cruise Line or on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App or the Disney Cruise Line website. Keep in mind that you don’t only have to be staying at any of the three hotels Disney Cruise Line offers Ground Transportation from, but you can stay at any hotel, ride back to the airport, and take Disney Cruise Line Ground Transportation from there too.
Damon, I hope that I was able to help you decide if you should walk to the port for your magical sailing ahead. I wish you the greatest memories during your cruise! Please sail back to planDisney if you have any other questions.
