Hi Kathy!
I understand your frustration about trying to find a spot at the
Fort Wilderness Resort. This is a very unique resort on property and it has become more and more popular over the years. It is divided between recently refurbished cabins and camping sites.
The month of October is probably one of the most popular and busiest times in this resort. The Halloween holiday is one of the biggest events all year there and guests reserve a year in advance to make sure they have a site. So at this time it doesn't surprise me you are having difficulty in finding a spot.
Try expanding your search backwards to see if something opens up. In other words try booking starting before October 15 and see if it lets you go into the dates you desire. Later on you can cancel the early days you don't need. There are no waiting lists for the sites so it will mean getting on daily to see if anything has opened up. Weekends will surely be the hardest to get so try for week days and then maybe again you can expand into a weekend. Don't be fussy about what kind of site you look for so try them all.
Cancelations do happen but you have to be persistent and be trying at all times of the day. Looking on line is easiest when checking all of the time but you can also call central reservations, 407-W-DISNEY, and have them look as well. I will be sending you pixie dust and hope the magic of Disney will allow you to find a camping site open for the dates you need.
