We are visiting with 9 year old autistic son. He loves rides but does not enjoy shows etc..."sitting confined". We often have to leave a park or long event after 4 hours. Any suggestions, thoughts or ideas for how he can best enjoy the park?

    Hi Heather,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Well now, the rides await, so we need to make a plan!

Since it seems clear that your son cannot tolerate a standard ride queue, especially when the lines are long, I suggest that you consider registering him for the Disability Access Service (DAS). With the Disability Access Service, you can approach a cast member at the entrance to a ride or attraction, explain that you have the Disability Access Service and request a return time for the ride. The cast member will give you a return time. When you return, you will typically enter the Fast Pass+ queue and have no more than a 15-minute wait for the attraction.

To register for the Disability Access Service, you just need to stop by Guest Relations when you arrive at your first theme park. When we have used this service in the past, my girls and I have been allowed to ride with my husband who has a mobility disability. Although either of us can request a return ride time for an attraction, when we return, my husband (the person with the Disability Access Service) has to scan in for the ride first, then we can scan in after him. The good news is that you can use the Disability Access Service in addition to Fast Pass+.

Heather, also be sure to make advanced dining reservations. Although you still may have a short wait, reservations will definitely reduce your wait time at restaurants. With Fast Pass+, Disability Access Service and advanced dining reservations, my husband is able to enjoy our vacations with us. I trust that a similar strategy will help your son have a magical visit without feeling confined!

Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
