We will be visiting WDW for the 1st time the last week of Jan 09. Are there any attractions that are always closed that time of year. I don't want to get my 6 year old excited about something and than it not be open.

There are no attractions that are "always closed" at a certain time of year. The two water parks do generally go out of service for 4 to 6 weeks each during the winter, but not both at the same time. Other than that, you check which rides will be serviced or updated in any given month by looking at the park calendar pages on the WDW website. For example, look at this page HERE, and scroll down to the bottom of the page and you see a note that says "Operational Updates." You can find this information for any of the parks for any month, so you can be prepared at the time of your trip.

    Have great stay at WDW!
