I am visiting the WDW resort right after New Years. I have a date based ticket so I am not required to make a reservation. Would you recommend I make park reservations due to the time of year and possibility that parks would reach capacity?

    Hiya Gretchen!

Welcome to planDisney! Your New Year is looking to start magically and I am excited to help you plan your day!

When you have a date-based Theme Park Ticket you do not need a Theme Park Reservation. Even if you wanted to make one you can't as the system will not let you. There is always a chance that Magic Kingdom Park could reach capacity on certain holidays but it's hard to predict right now. If you are nervous about not being allowed in the Parks I would make sure you enter the Parks early in the day and plan to spend the whole day there. There is a chance that when you leave the Park could reach capacity and you will not be allowed back in. All notifications are pushed through the My Disney Experience Mobile App so make sure to allow for notifications in your phone settings. Magic Kingdom Park will be the Park that most likely reaches capacity first as the other Parks handle crowds a little better.

I also recommend booking a dining reservation for that day for a break. It might be very busy and there will be long lines for everything. I bet you would love the break in your day with a lovely seated meal in a fun restaurant. My top pick for a Table Service meal at Magic Kingdom Park is Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen. The Cast Members are hilarious, the food is flavorful and the rooms are so well-themed.

I hope this helps and you have a lovely time!

    Happy Planning!

Hey, it's Nimmy from New York! Just like my guy Jiminy Cricket I am your wisecracking and helpful guide to making the best decisions for your Disney vacation! My husband and I work very hard to journey to our favorite place on Earth, Walt Disney World Resort, as much as we can. We have traveled as just adults, with babies, kids, teenagers, and senior citizens. We have seen so many characters, eaten at amazing places, and consumed a ton of Dole Whips. So "give a little whistle" and let me be your guide! Learn More About Nimmy
