We will be visiting WDW in Oct 2014 with our 6 year old son for 10 days. This is our first trip to WDW and we are having a hard time deciding on a resort. Can you give some guidance with this? Value or moderate? and why.

Hi Vicky! How exciting to be planning your first vacation to Walt Disney World!  We know it can be overwhelming so you've come to the right place for advice.  Welcome to the Moms Panel!

As you probably realized, there are many resorts to choose from and it looks like you've narrowed down your choice to a value or moderate level.  First and foremost, consider your budget.  If your budget is more comfortable at a value level, then that is the place to focus.  Next, theming - what would work best for your family?  Is your son a Buzz Lightyear fan?  Perhaps a room in the Toy Story section of All Star Movies would be the perfect choice.  Does he prefer pirates?  If the answer is yes, then the pirate themed rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort may be your choice.

All of the resorts in the value/moderate category have food courts which are very convenient for families and at least one pool at the moderate level will have a water slide.  All resorts will use bus transportation to get to the theme parks.

I hope this helps with your decision.  Another thing to consider - since you are staying for 10 days, why not split your stay between two resorts?  We've done this a few times in the past and it's always seemed like two vacations in one!
