Visiting WDW 11/18-11/23. Do you need to purchase tickets for the Characters in Flight in advance or can you just go that day and pay? Also, how long are you in the air? Are there any age limits? We have never done this and thought it might be fun!

    Hi Jennifer ~

I am a big fan of Characters in Flight at Downtown Disney and consider myself a frequent flyer. Go for it! It is awesome fun!

Great questions! Tickets for Characters in Flight are not sold in advanced but may be purchased at the attraction's ticket window. They don't sell advanced tickets because weather is a huge factor in determining whether or not this attraction will be operating. Weather conditions also determine the number of Guests who may board the gondola on any given flight. There are too many variables to sell advanced tickets.

Flights last from 8 to 10 minutes. The basket holds up to 29 Guests plus the pilot. The capacity for each flight is determined by wind speed. On a great day, the tethered balloon will go up to 400 feet in the air.

All ages are welcome to fly but no strollers are allowed in the basket. Guests over the age of 9 years old are permitted to ride by themselves. However, children under 9 years old must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years of age.

The hours of operation of Characters in Flight vary. You can find the hours of operation for the day you plan to visit by clicking on the link provided above. About half way down that page on the right side, you will see the hours of operation for the current date and a small calendar icon. Click on that icon and select your date of visit.

The day and night flights provide different spectacular views. Bring a pair of binoculars and your camera. The pilot will be happy to take photos of your party.

Please feel free to visit us again with any other questions. It is our pleasure to assist you!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
