We will be visiting WDW in May 2011. I am trying to decide which dinner show my 4 year old daughter will enjoy more.... Mickey's Backyard BBQ or Spirit of Aloha. Which do you think?

    Hi Ashley,

The Spirit of Aloha Show is a great dinner show, however, I would suggest that it is better suited for slightly older children.  While your daughter might enjoy watching some of the hula dancing and the fire-eater at the end of the performance, much of the performance will likely be lost on her. Mickey's Backyard BBQ is a fabulous choice for younger children.  The BBQ takes place in a giant, outdoor pavillion at Fort Wilderness Campground.  In my opinion, this show provides kids (and grown-ups) with unprecedented access to the characters.  While you dine from an all-you-can-eat buffet of picnic food (baked chicken, ribs, cole slaw, hot dogs, watermelon, ice cream bars, lemonade, iced tea, beer, wine) you will watch a number of country-western acts while Disney favorites (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale) dance along with the audience.  My recommendation here is to eat fast at the beginning of the evening, because once the characters come out, your daughter probably won't want to sit down again!  Kids of all ages can spend the evening "cutting a rug" alongside their Disney favorites.  If you chose to go, be sure to bring your camera, because the evening always lends itself to amazing photos!

I took my children to the BBQ when my youngest was two and my oldest was four, and they absolutely loved it.  In fact, we have been back several times since!  I would suggest saving the luau for a future trip.
