We're visiting WDW in May 2021 and are staying on Disney property. We're getting transportation to the resort on Disney Magical Express. With online check-in, we don't even have to go to the front desk - but how do we get to our room?

Hello Michelle, and welcome to planDisney! I'm glad you stopped by with such a great question, and I'd be happy to help.

Online check-in is one of many conveniences offered to you as a Guest of a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. I love that I can link a credit card for charging, make room requests, sign up to receive text alerts, and more before I leave home.

On your arrival day, you will be notified by text or e-mail when your resort room is ready. You are welcome to enjoy the swimming pools and other resort amenities on check-in day, and I recommend that you pack a day bag with swimsuits, sunscreen, and a change of clothes in case you want to make a splash before settling into your room. Restrooms and changing areas are located adjacent to the pool areas, so you'll have a place to freshen up. You can store larger suitcases with Bell Services until your room is available. My family loves to explore our resort and go for a swim on our check-in day. We aim to arrive midday and spend the rest of the afternoon just soaking up the magic of our surroundings and relaxing after a morning of travel.

When your resort room is ready, you will receive a message that provides your room number as well as a map of the resort. By using either the Unlock Door feature on the My Disney Experience mobile app or a MagicBand, you are free to skip the front desk and go directly to your room! The message will include details about your room location like "1st floor" or " 70s Building" to help you find your new home. If you are using a MagicBand, simply tap the keypad to unlock your door. The Unlock Door feature on My Disney Experience works similarly.

It's great to have a variety of options to access your room. On a recent stay at Disney's Riviera Resort, I accidentally left my MagicBand behind when I stepped out for a cup of coffee, but I was able to use my phone to unlock my door upon returning. Hakuna Matata!

Michelle, I hope this helps you understand the latest arrival process at Walt Disney World. Reduced face-to-face contact is one of many protocols designed to keep both Guests and Cast Members as safe as possible. Fortunately, bypassing the front desk at check-in is also convenient and gets the vacation fun started even faster! Thanks for stopping by planDisney, and if there is anything else we can do as your adventure approaches, come see us again. We're all ears!

Wishing you a great, big, beautiful tomorrow,
    Betsy
