We will be visiting WDW July 4- 9. We have a 6:30pm arrival on the 4th, what do you recommend we do? Is there a fireworks show we can see without getting into the parks?

Hi Edith!  July 4th is one of the busiest days in the parks during the year.  In fact some parks such as the Magic Kingdom might close to more guests if they reach capacity.

My suggestion for you to view some of the great fireworks is to head to a resort such as the Polynesian or Grand Floridian to watch from the beach.  Another possibility is to head to Fort Wilderness and watch the Magic Kingdom show from that beach. You are a bit further away and can't see the castle but all the high fireworks are completely visible and they pipe in the music.

You can see some of the Illuminations Show in EPCOT from the Boardwalk area or the entrance area at the International Gateway.  However, much of this show is at water level and unless you are in the park you will miss a great deal.

Do not try to drive to a resort such as the Polynesian or Grand Floridian as they most likely will close off any parking and restrict it to their own resort guests.  You could drive to Fort Wilderness and park in the area for the Hoop De Doo Revue guests and then take the internal bus to the beach area.  To get from resort to resort you need to catch a bus to a park or Downtown Disney and then transfer to the resort you wish to reach.  During a holiday time this can take well over an hour so be aware of the fireworks times and give yourself a cushion so you don't arrive too late.
