We will be visiting WDW Dec. 19-26 2009 with an almost three year old, do you think he will be afraid of the characters? By the way this is our first time so do we need coats, hats, gloves? How big are the parks?

The December weather temperature averages range from 53-73 degrees.  If you are up early  and stay out late you just might need those gloves or a hat!  During the day the sun is quite warm and enjoyable but I always tell people to think layers when dressing for a day in the parks.  No coats are needed but a good sweatshirt is a must!

I answered a question earlier today about characters and toddlers.  Every child is different and you will not be able to know the reaction of your child until you get there.  Do not force a child to go to a character as you must remember how scary one can be to a little tyke with those big eyes and ears and noses!  If you are at a character dining experience have your child sit in your lap and introduce a character to him that way.  If you are in the parks you can hold him and walk up to a character together.  Your child will give you the cues as to how much he wants to interact.  Most parents also try to let their children know who some of the characters might be before going to the parks.  Get some books that have pictures of the characters and talk about them in positive happy ways.  My grandson loves Playhouse Mickey and that was a natural introduction so that by the time he was in the parks it was like Mickey was his long lost friend!
