Visiting WDW with daughter (11) and son (4). We like to be at parks at rope drop. Should we go back to resort after lunch for a rest each day then back to park? Or do we stay and wrap up late afternoon, leaving the evening for dining, swimming, etc?

    Hi Keely,

You have a fabulous question about how to plan your theme park touring.  When vacationing with my children I almost always schedule an afternoon break back at our Resort hotel.  The only exception for me is when we plan a relaxation day to sleep in and then only visit the theme parks in the afternoon or evening.  Like you, I also love being in the theme parks for the magical rope drop.  My family uses the standby queues for our favorite attractions early in the morning while the weather is cooler and the crowds are lower.  We like to schedule our FastPass+ selections for late morning/early afternoon and then leave the park around 2:00.  We find that having at least 3 hours at our Resort hotel allows us all to relax and refresh.  When we return to the theme parks in the evening we tend to gear our time towards exploring, shopping, watching shows and visiting the places we didn't have a chance that morning.

You have brought up one of my favorite tips which is making sure your family gets enough rest.  After all it's very hard to make happy memories when you are hot and tired.  There is so much to experience at Walt Disney World that you cannot do it all in one visit.  This is why each vacation is unique and why I keep coming back year after year with my family.

Thank you for your insightful question Keely.  Please let us know if you have any further vacation planning questions.  We are always happy to help!
