We are visiting WDW, CBR 07/14, can we access the beach on our resort, my son is Autistic, and was looking forward to playing in the sand, But I can use pic cards to explain if they are closed,  many thanks

Greetings, AnnMarie, welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel from a fellow mom of an Autistic child.

You're going to love staying at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort where you're sure to relax. When there with my son, we found great convenience staying in the Preferred Guest Rooms because they were close to the main pool, Old Port Royale Food Court, the arcade and gift shop.

There is a sandy beach area all around Barefoot Bay, but since there is 'no swimming' in the water which is now enclosed by a fence, we kept far away from the shoreline and instead stayed very close to the concrete footpath. My son was able to play in the sand a little with the ease of knowing that solid ground was inches away, in the event of a restroom break or quick trip back to our Resort hotel Guest room.

AnnMarie, a helpful online guide that I find useful is through Disney's Services for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities page which offers a Guide for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities which you can download in preparation for your visit. As well as using FastPass+ Planning, you can also inquire about the Disability Access Service (DAS) through any Theme Park Guest Relations.
