We are visiting WDW in April and will be staying on Disney property, but our park tickets were given to us separately. Would it make financial sense to buy the minimum park tickets necessary to be able to purchase meal plans for everyone? Thanks in advance

    Hi Cathy,

I am a huge advocate for the Disney Dining Plan.  My family uses it every chance we get while vacationing at Walt Disney World.  Typically, using the Disney Dining Plan can save a family 20% over the cost of paying for similar meals out-of-pocket.  If you need or could use another day's worth of theme park tickets for everyone in your party, then yes it does make sense to buy the extra tickets so that you are eligible to purchase the Disney Dining Plan.

If, however, the theme park tickets given to you will cover the entire length of your stay, then it probably makes more sense to use them on this trip and simply pay out-of-pocket for your meals.  Otherwise, you'd be losing the 20% dining savings with the purchase of theme park tickets that you don't need.  If you need any tips for saving on dining at Disney when paying with cash, do feel free to post a follow-up question.  We have many suggestions we'd be happy to share!

Best wishes for a magical vacation!
