We will be visiting Walt Disney World in November this year. My son was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to keep his insulin cool for the day.

Welcome Back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Richard ~

Your trip will be here before you know it and I bet you are too excited to sleep already!

I am happy to hear that you are planning ahead for your son. Traveling with a child who has any type of special need can be a challenge. You are welcome to store your son's insulin at the First Aid locations in the theme parks and water parks. Keep in mind that if you store your son's insulin there, you will have to make a trip back to the First Aid location every time your son needs his insulin. You may want to invest in a small cooler to keep it with you. There are sharps containers provided at all of the First Aid locations as well as in many restrooms.

Special dietary requests including medically restricted diets can often be accommodated at table-service restaurants and select quick-service locations. At quick-service locations, ask to speak with a manager before ordering. If you make any advanced dining reservations, you should contact Special.Diets@DisneyWorld.com after booking your dining reservations and at least 14 days prior to your arrival. Be sure to mention that you have a special dietary concern to your hostess when you check-in for your reservation and ask your waiter to speak with the Chef prior to ordering.

One of our alumni Moms, Jacqui, has a daughter that was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes last year. She has done a lot to educate Guests traveling to the Walt Disney World Resort about T1D. She wrote an excellent article that you can find on touringplans.com that I think would be super helpful for you.

Please feel free to visit us again with all of your planning questions. We are hEAR for you!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
