Visiting 12-10-17 to 12-17-17 staying at the Grand Floridian. Are the pools still open? Also is the Let the Magic Begin Ceremony and the Flag Retreat still being held then because on the calendar of events it ends on December 2, 2017. Thanks!

Hiya, Carole Anne! You are going to have one magical vacation! It’s just around the biverbend, and I can feel your excitement growing like Maleficent’s vines!

Yes, the Let the Magic Begin welcome show at Magic Kingdom will still be going on. Times are always being added to the calendar of events, so if you don’t see something you are looking for right away, be sure to check back in a week or so. I can tell you that Let The Magic Begin typically takes place 10 minutes before park opening or Extra Magic Hours beginning. Likewise, the Flag Retreat typically is an ongoing ceremony, though the time can shift slightly due to changing daylight during the year. I would expect it anywhere from 5pm to 5:30 during December.

Now about that swimming time! Yes, the Resort pools are open and heated year round, so unless there is routine or unexpected maintenance, you should be able to don your swimsuit and take a dip. The Grand Floridian’s whirlpools make for a cozy winter water experience during the cooler months, and I always want dessert after an evening swim. Good for me the Courtyard Pool Bar stocks slices of decadent chocolate and crazy carrot cake!

If you have more questions about your upcoming vacation, please let me know. I’m hEAR for you! ~ Lindsey P.
