We will be visiting soon with our children ages 5 and 7, we have never been to a water park before, we are fair skinned (burn easily) so need the one with the most shade. Also, the kids use vest or water wings to swim, do we need to bring them with us?

    Hi Tricia,

You and your kids are going to have such a splashing good time at the Walt Disney World water parks. Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are unique and fun in their own ways. Blizzard Beach's theming is a lot more unique with a cute backstory while Typhoon Lagoon has the typical beachy feel of many water parks. Typhoon Lagoon has a shark reef where you can snorkel among sharks (albeit passive ones), coral reefs and various fish while Blizzard Beach has the Summit Plummet, one of the largest and fastest free fall slides in the world!

I would say from personal experience at both, there are about the same amount of shaded areas in both. The key is to get there early to snag an ideal spot for your family. Keep in mind, most of the areas for the pools and slides are not covered, so be liberal with your sunscreen and apply regularly. Also, be aware of the times of day when the sun/UV rays are most intense, usually between 10am-4pm, according to the Sun Safety Alliance.

You are allowed to bring your own vests or water wings with you into the parks, but vests can be rented. The rental is complimentary, but you will have to leave a drivers license or credit card as a deposit.

So splish splash your way to a magical day at the parks and stay safe!
