Hi Liesl,
How exciting to visit Walt Disney World to celebrate your older son's birthday! Be sure to get a "Happy Birthday" button for your son on his birthday. These buttons are free, and you can pick them up at Guest Relations at any of the Disney theme parks. While no special treatment is guaranteed, you never know when a little bit of extra pixie dust may be sprinkled on your son's day. My daughter received a huge birthday cupcake at The Plaza Restaurant in Magic Kingdom while wearing a birthday button on her seventh birthday! Even if nothing like this happens, it is fun to hear cast members and other guests wishing your little one a happy day.
I am not sure if you are staying at Disney's Wilderness Lodge or Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Either way, these are great resorts. At Disney's Wilderness Lodge, a birthday meal at Whispering Canyon Cafe would be a lot of fun. This restaurant offers energetic interaction, including hobby horse races and sing-alongs. Over at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue and Mickey's Backyard BBQ would be great places to celebrate a birthday. Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is a high-energy dinner show with wonderful music. Mickey's Backyard BBQ is a huge picnic with characters, dancing, and a band. Any of these dinners and experiences can be booked by calling 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463) or by visiting
Disney Dining online. You can get from Disney's Wilderness Lodge to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, so you can feel free to book experiences at either resort. Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park are a lot of fun. If your son enjoys being in the water, a visit to one of these will be a great addition to the birthday trip.
I am limited in the space that I have to answer, Liesl. Please do write back if you have any further questions!
