We are visiting in September as a family of 6 . My husband has had an operation on his ankle and now requires the use of a stick to get around . Can we use the DAS system?

    Hello Tracy!

Welcome to planDisney! I'm sorry to hear that your husband is dealing with ankle issues. Having any mobility issue can be exacerbated easily after just a few hours of walking around Walt Disney World Resort on a warm day. I know that my ankles swell after just one day!

The Disability Access Service or DAS is intended for guests who have a developmental disability such as autism and are unable to handle a conventional queue for very long. There is a registration process for this that requires an interview with a Cast Member. As you are an international guest you will not be able to complete this interview until you arrive in the United States and then you can visit the US-based DAS registration site. Please note that this link will not work until you reach the United States as the chat cannot be conducted with individuals outside of the country.

DAS tends to not apply to guests whose disabilities can best be served by a wheelchair or ECV. However, I would still consider applying for DAS if there are additional issues I am not aware of. Thankfully, there are still dedicated options for guests with mobility issues. Consider renting a wheelchair or ECV if there are days that are going to be more physically trying for your husband. If you do not qualify for DAS then consider purchasing Disney Genie+ as a way to enjoy attractions with a limited wait time. Take breaks and please savor the moments you have together. Some of my best times in Walt Disney World Resort are my time just eating a snack and watching the magic around me.

I hope this helps and if you have any more questions please feel free to let me know

    Happy Planning!

Meet the Panelist: Nimmy, New York

Hey, it's Nimmy from New York! Just like my guy Jiminy Cricket I am your wisecracking and helpful guide to making the best decisions for your Disney vacation! My husband and I work very hard to journey to our favorite place on Earth, Walt Disney World Resort, as much as we can. We have traveled as just adults, with babies, kids, teenagers, and senior citizens. We have seen so many characters, eaten at amazing places, and consumed a ton of Dole Whips. So "give a little whistle" and let me be your guide! Learn More About Nimmy
