Visiting parks 1-10-16. Have before park opens res. at Crystal Palace. Was hoping for empty park pics in front of castle, but read this is marathon day and runners/spectators gather in front of castle. How will marathon affect our day at the parks? Thanks!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Melanie!

Thank you so much for your question! The greatest impact you will experience in trying to get to your reservation at Crystal Palace will be transportation to the Magic Kingdom. I would love to know where you are staying, or if you are just driving in, so I may suggest the appropriate driving/resort transportation route.

As far as the spectators and runners interfering with those coveted, early-morning castle pics, you should be ok. The race begins at Epcot at 5:30am and heads straight to Magic Kingdom. Even though it takes a full hour to get all runners on the course itself, with Magic Kingdom being at mile 5, runners will have already passed through Main Street USA well before park opening. In addition, spectators who arrived at 5:30am will need to exit the park by 9:00am. So again, the biggest impact will be trying to get to Magic Kingdom due to the course being 26.2 miles long and weaving all around Walt Disney World® Resort.

Once you are in Magic Kingdom, you will find it to be VERY quiet for most of the day. It will be funny to think just hours before you arrived, 27,000 runners came through.

Please let me know where you will be arriving from, Melanie, and I'll help you navigate your best route. I hope to hear from you again soon!
