We are visiting in Oct with our 22 mnth old. I want to stay in the Cabins at the Wilderness Lodge. I like that they have full size kitchens and lots to do in the area. Can anyone tell me if the Cabins are worth the extra $$.

    Hi Kristina,

The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort are a fabulous option for families who are interested in a little extra space and many amenities you can find at home, including a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area, separate living room and bedroom and private deck with barbecue.  The kitchen works great with small kids, as you can quickly prepare some "toddler favorites" and save money on concessions in the parks.  My kids absolutely love staying at "the Fort" because there are so many activities and special events, that you almost don't need to leave the resort to head to the parks.  (I said,  "almost"!)  Our favorites include:

Mickey's Backyard BBQ -a wonderful dinner show that features a country-western band that entertains the crowd while the audience is invited up onto a giant dance floor with several Disney superstars, including Mickey, Goofy, Minnie and Chip n' Dale

Chip n' Dale's Campfire Sing-Along - this is a (weather-permitting) nightly activity which includes a campfire, sing-along and an opportunity to make s'mores (you can bring your own supplies or purchase them at the Fort).  It's followed by an open-air Disney movie.  Talk about the perfect ending to a Disney day!

Hoop Dee Doo Review - this is another dinner show that's great fun for a slightly older crowd than Mickey's BBQ in my opinion.  It's a country-western variety show that features singing, dancing and tons of slapstick.

In addition, the Fort has a lovely beach, where you can watch the Electric Water Pageant float by on select nights, and offers easy access to the Magic Kingdom via boat launch, which I suspect will come in handy with an almost-two-year-old!  I absolutely recommend a visit to Fort Wilderness!  Have a wonderful trip!
