    Visiting MK Feb. 1, staying offsite, just-returned friend suggested I not order taxi pickup at MK, instead go to a monorail resort to take Disney bus to Downtown Disney, then get a cab back to hotel from there. Would that work? would love to shop at DD.

    Hi Monica!  How exciting that your Walt Disney World trip is just around the corner!  Your friend is definitely onto something, getting a taxi from Magic Kingdom is a bit more involved than the other parks.  Taxis are not allowed to pick up directly in front of Magic Kingdom, instead they are allowed to pick up guests at the Ticket & Transportation Center.  In order to take a taxi directly from the Magic Kingdom you will have to take the ferryboat or Monorail to the Ticket & Transportation Center and meet your taxi there.  If you are leaving at closing time when lots of other guests are also trying to exit the park, this can be a huge hassle. 
    My suggestion would be to walk the pathway to The Contemporary Resort and to meet your taxi, this will help you avoid the mad dash to the Ferryboats and Monorail.  Another good idea is to take the bus from the Contemporary to Downtown Disney and catch a taxi there which are usually very easy to find.   It is cheaper to take a taxi from Downtown Disney than Magic Kingdom or the Contemporary, plus you can spend a little time to stop and shop.  Let me know if I can help answer anymore of your questions.
