Hi Jackie,
I have been pouring over all of my island information in preparation for my own voyage on the Disney Magic! First of all, I'll mention that although these islands are relatively small and therefore most beaches will be accessible by taxi - I recommend that first time visitors book their excursions through the cruise line. This simply ensures you will be in the right places at the right time, and someone will be accounting for you to make sure you get you back to the ship on time. Travel times and estimates can be varied, and the ship won't wait if your personal taxi is caught in a traffic jam.
In St.Thomas the most popular beach is probably Magens Bay Beach. This public beach boasts calm waters and beautiful scenery which has made it a favorite among families. This beach is about 20 minutes by taxi from the pier. A few of the other favorites are Sapphire Beach and Coki Beach which tend to offer a more commercial atmosphere to them.
Personally, I would opt to take the excursion over to St. John to enjoy the lower crowds and amazing snorkeling! I've picked out the
Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkel Tour for my family.
St. Maarten is a very small island, and If I had to choose one to go out on my own, this would be it. I would probably just browse the shops at the pier, or take the water taxi over to Philipsburg for some shopping and dining. Personally, the history of this island intrigues me so I think we'll opt for the
Under Two Flags Island Tour.
