Visiting in January. Will the animals be out for the Kilimanjaro Safari ride? When are they the most active at this time of year? Are there any temperatures when they would not be out?

Hiya Stephanie and welcome to planDisney!

The beginning of 2023 will see you at The Most Magical Place on Earth and I have to say you've got the right idea about how to start the year off with a bang. And of course, you've got to take a walk on the wild side with a visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Kilimanjaro Safaris is one of my and my animal-loving goddaughter's favorite Attractions and we try to fit it into the schedule every visit. I'm happy to share with you what I know about how to get the best experience possible.

Typically the animals are out and about year-round on this trek through the jungles and savannas of Africa. But if you've watched Magic of Disney's Animal Kingdom on Disney+, you'll know that those keepers will do anything necessary to care for the well-being of their charges. So a few of our animal friends may not come out if the weather will be detrimental to their health. As for the time of day that's best during a January visit, I'd say the same thing I'd say during a July visit. First thing in the morning has consistently been when all of our beastly pals have been super active no matter what time of year I go.

Pro-tip: The fact that it won't be so hot is actually a helpful part of your experience. I've noticed that all of the animals tend to be more active throughout the length of the day when temperatures aren't sweltering.

Stephanie, good luck on your animal sighting excursion! If you have any other questions, please feel free to come back for another chat.

    Happy planning!
