Visiting in Jan 09-Our plane lands @9:00am-We have reservations at 7:10 California Grill. My ?-With a 6yr old-Which park do you suggest we go to?Should I schedule a character lunch w/Pooh? If yes what time?or am I doing/expecting too much on first day.

    Kathy,
I see that you will be traveling from NY so if your plane lands in the early morning at Orlando, I can only imagine the very early hour your family will be waking up to get to the airport. I'm a big fan of taking it easy on our travel day to WDW. While families are excited about seeing and doing it all, it's not a great way to start your vacation if everyone is miserably tired from a hectic day of travel. You'll all be refreshed and ready to take on WDW if you wait to start your touring the following the day.

Remember that travel delays occur rather frequently so if you do not have too much planned then you'll be less stressed when you hear your flight is delayed by an hour (or more). Although I certainly hope your family doesn't have to wait for your flight to Orlando, I thought I should mention this possibility before you plan too much on your arrival day. We are traveling to Orlando in January as well and we will not be entering a WDW park on our arrival day.

I think your dinner plans are ideal. You can arrive your resort, relax, maybe go to Downtown Disney if your room is not ready and then take a nap or rest before your evening plans. Dinner at California Grill is a memorable meal. You could always arrive the Contemporary Resort early and do some shopping. You might also take a round-trip ride on the monorail. This is a great adventure for a first evening.
