We will be visiting Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom for my son's 6th birthday. The character meals are out of our budget. Is there a table service restaurant that permits dessert only? The TTDessert Party is already booked up. Thank you!

    Hi Dallas,

I am so happy to offer suggestions for your son's birthday. There are lots of ways to celebrate without breaking the bank. You are welcome to visit table service restaurants that aren't buffets and order only dessert. Here are a few that may be fun for your son, all generally requiring a reservation:

    Hollywood Studios:
    • '50s Prime Time Cafe -- They serve a terrific brownie sundae and I've heard great things about the PB&J milkshake.
    • Sci-Fi Dine-In -- Turtle cheesecake, a hot fudge sundae and a peanut butter chocolate cake are highlights of the dessert menu.
    Magic Kingdom:
    • The Plaza -- Meals are moderately priced, and the desserts include a banana split, ice cream sundaes and a brownie sundae.
    • Be Our Guest -- Reservations are difficult to come by for dinner, but lunch is quick service. The cupcakes and cream puffs served at both meals (about $4 each) are yummy.

    Downtown Disney:

    • Rainforest Cafe -- The chocolate Volcano, enough for at least two, is served with a sparkler and much fanfare. Plus, your son may enjoy the the jungle atmosphere.
    • T-Rex -- The dessert menu includes something called Chocolate Extinction, similar to the Volcano. The decor features dinosaurs instead of jungle animals.

A couple that don't take reservations:

    • Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Factory -- I once celebrated a birthday here, in Downtown Disney, with a special sundae big enough for my family to share.
    • Beaches and Cream -- The home of the enormous Kitchen Sink Sundae also serves sandwiches, salads and burgers and is in the Beach Club resort, a short boat ride from Hollywood Studios. It is popular and can sometimes have a fairly long wait

I hope I've given you some good ideas. Please write back if I can offer more details or answer any other questions. Enjoy!
