We are visiting DW 1/2014 for the marathon weekend. Can you share how transportation compares between the cabins and POFQ? Any possible issues with dining reservations? Are there other tips to know about POFQ? I Love FW but fam wants to try something new

    Hi Michele!

Well, I did a little asking around to some other panelists to give you the majority answer for your question:)

Basically, the transportation at the Fort Wilderness Cabins can be very long and tedious because there is an internal bus system to take you to the Disney parks bus location.  They highly recommend that if you choose the cabins, you rent a golf cart so you can cart yourself to the bus location for the parks.  The ferry to Magic Kingdom is a plus for the cabins, though.  And from the Magic Kingdom, you could monorail over to Epcot.

Port Orleans French Quarter also has internal stops, but not as many, and the bus stops are easier to access.  There is also a direct ferry to Downtown Disney.

As far as race day transportation, either resort would require you to get to the main area (usually where check-in is) to load the runDisney buses.  RunDisney will post pick-up information around the resorts during race weekend.  I would definitely want to have a golf cart on race day because the internal buses will probably not be up and running that early in the morning:)  Port Orleans would be an easier walk to the runDisney bus stop.

I found a great website (it's not officially Disney, so the information could be outdated or wrong) to help you with tips at Port Orleans.  Visit this page: http://www.portorleans.org/

I hope this helps and you guys have a great trip!  Marathon weekend is so much fun!  Please let me know if you have any other questions.
