Hi Kortnee,
Thank you so much for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel today! We have visited Walt Disney World in between deployments in the past. It was such a wonderful way to forget the outside world and just focus on fun and family for a period of time. I highly suggest making the
Flag Retreat ceremony inside Magic Kingdom Park a part of your vacation. Each day, the flag in Town Square is lowered while the Magic Kingdom Band plays and military members are recognized for their service.
Each day, a guest is selected at random to participate in the ceremony. In my experience, arriving early to Magic Kingdom Park, wearing military clothing (unit t-shirt, hat), and talking with Cast Members at the gate may help increase your chances of being selected. In the past, guests were able to volunteer at City Hall's Guest Relations Office for the ceremony, but this not done as a regular practice anymore. Still, it can't hurt to ask! It is not possible to guarantee your husband's participation, but even watching the ceremony is something special and shouldn't be missed.
Also, be sure to pick up "I'm Celebrating" pins for your family. You should be able to get them when you check into your resort. Let everyone know what you're celebrating and you may find pixie dust may follow you around.
I hope you have a wonderful trip, Kortnee. Enjoy making your magical memories. Please come back and see me again if you have any other questions.
Have a Disney day,
Ashley
