I will be visiting DW for 10 days, but only visiting the parks for 5 days. Is there a way to only get a dinning plan for 5 days? Additionally, do you have to buy dining plans for the whole party, or can I be selective in buying for specific individuals?

Welcome to planDisney, David, it’s so nice to hear from you!

A trip to Walt Disney World with a dining plan is my ideal vacation. On our most recent visit we enjoyed the Disney Dining Plan. Meal wise, this plan allows you to enjoy 1 Quick-Service Meal and 1 Table-Service Meal per night of stay. Knowing that, we ended up scheduling Character Dining experiences daily. I think only one of our dining reservations didn’t include characters which my little ones loved!

Disney Dining Plans are vacation package add-ons. If your resort reservation is for the 10 days, then your dining plan will be for the length of stay. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to condense your plan to fewer days if your package is in fact for 10 days. The same guidelines apply for selecting who will have a dining plan and who will not. Everyone listed on the reservation will be included in that dining plan addition.

Another option you have would be to consider a split stay. That way you could spend half of your vacation in one resort with a dining plan and the other half of your vacation in a different resort without a dining plan. My family has done this before and we loved it! We spent our first 4 days at The Grand Floridian and the remaining 3 days at Disney’s Coronado Springs. While moving mid-vacation can be a little tricky, I would totally do it again. It felt like 2 separate vacations! If a split stay with two reservations sounds like a good fit for your family, please let me know. I’ll be more than happy to share some tips to help make this option easier.

David, I hope this helped answer your question about the dining plan and your reservation. Again if you need anything else, please don't hesitate to ask!
