Hi Moms, we will be visiting DL right as Rise of the Resistance opens. Any clues on my best chance of getting on the ride? Do you know if they'll be doing lottery? Virtual que? Max passes etc? Thank you!

    Hello, Marina!

Just in time, we have received updated information about what to expect when Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens at the Disneyland Resort on January 17, 2020. Finally, we know what it will take to be "Resistance Ready." My fellow panelists and I have been discussing and strategizing about this very topic lately. We are all so excited to be taking part in this historic new attraction. My family and I also will be making the trek down from Utah to take in this epic new experience this month. Can. Not. Wait.

So, here’s what we now know. When demand for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is high, a virtual queue system similar to the virtual queue implemented briefly after the grand opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in 2019 will be used. This time, however, guests will join Boarding Groups to access just the attraction. I expect the remainder of the land to be open for guests to enjoy without needing to join a Boarding Group. Here are the steps to join a Boarding Group as has been revealed so far:
    • Before you arrive at Disneyland Park, download and install the Disneyland app. Scan and link your theme park tickets in the app.
    • Enter into Disneyland Park. Guests are eligible to join a Boarding Group once their park tickets have been used to enter the park.
    • After regular park hours begin, use the Disneyland app to access the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance section of the home screen. In the new screen that opens up, tap the "Join Boarding Group" button and follow the on-screen prompts to have all the guests in your party join an available Boarding Group.
    • Make sure notifications are enabled on the Disneyland app. When it is time for your Board Group, a push notification will be sent to your mobile device. Or you may observe displays throughout the park to find out which Boarding Group numbers are permitted to queue up.

Guests not using the Disneyland app may seek out a Cast Member inside the park to ask about the Guest Relations locations available for signing up for a Boarding Group outside the app.

Tony's Tip: Some of my fellow panelists have already had a chance to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance since it opened at Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort last month. They report being utterly amazed by the attraction. So it goes without saying that it has quickly become one of the most popular attractions. Planned Boarding Groups for each day have typically been filling up within minutes of park opening. To ensure you have the best chance of experiencing the attraction at Disneyland Park, make sure you arrive at the park before park opening. Guests with Magic Morning or Disneyland Resort Hotel guests with Extra Magic Hour privileges at Disneyland Park should plan on arriving even earlier to take advantage of that early admission benefit. Then, once the regular park hours begin, access the Boarding Group system in the Disneyland app as quickly as possible.

May the Force be with you, Marina!
