I will be visiting Disneyworld in September for the first time with my family. My son will be turning 5 years old while on vacation. What besides being in Disney can I do to make this trip extra special? Any places that he should not miss while in Disney.

    Hi Felicia

Celebrating a birthday at Walt Disney World is magical, especially for a five-year-old. Although you probably won't have to go out of your way to make the experience any more special for your son, here are a few suggestions:
    • Check in at City Hall at the Magic Kingdom and pick up a birthday button. Many Cast Members will go out of their way to wish your son a Happy Birthday or greet him with a kind gesture to make the day more memorable.
    • Contact the Dream Makers at Disney Floral and Gifts online or at (407) WDW-GIFT or (407) 939-4438. If you are staying at a Disney Resort, they can help create a personalized in-room celebration featuring your son's favorite Disney characters. They can also deliver personalized gift baskets to your Disney resort or a Disney restaurant where you may be enjoying a celebratory meal.
    • If you are staying at a Disney Resort, let them know that it's your son's birthday when you check in. It's possible the front desk may be able to help arrange some Disney magic for your child.
    • Arrange a special character meal dining reservation. You usually cannot go wrong with a character breakfast at Chef Mickeys.
    • A simple treat, like buying a your child a balloon or bag of popcorn on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, will likely bring a huge smile to your child.

As for "must dos," here is a question I recently answered based on must-visits for my young boys.

Enjoy the trip and the special day.
