Kerrie from Victoria Asked Note: This answer was provided prior to the change to planDisney and may still contain references to Disney Parks Moms Panel.

Hi there. Visiting Disneyland all the way from Australia with hubby and 9 year old son. This will be our very 1st time. Planning on 4 days. Do you think we will be able to experience everything or be too rushed? Any tips on planning and what best for 9yo?

Hey there, hi there, ho there, Kerrie, you’re as welcome as can be to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I’m so excited for your family’s first trip to the Disneyland Resort, and I’m thrilled to report that yes, four days should be just fine for experiencing the magic of Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney District. I don’t think you’ll be too rushed, either! If you’re staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel, be sure to take advantage of your hotel’s location to enjoy some midday pool breaks, then head back to the parks for an evening of fun and fireworks!

I do have some planning tips to help you maximize your time in the theme parks, starting with downloading the Disneyland app. It’s the perfect tool to use inside both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. My family enjoys using the Disneyland app to check wait times, find favorite Characters, make dining reservations, utilize Disney MaxPass, and mobile order food on-the-go. MaxPass allows you to make digital Disney FASTPASS selections directly from your mobile device, which is especially helpful when you’re park-hopping between both theme parks – with MaxPass, you can make a FASTPASS selection from one park while you’re still in the other!

Though you can’t start making FASTPASS selections until you’re inside the parks, you can start making dining reservations up to 60 days before your visit, so I’d recommend planning ahead on a few special meals. Blue Bayou Restaurant has a unique atmosphere, located inside the actual Pirates of the Caribbean attraction!

As for tips for your 9-year-old, I’d highly recommend spending some time in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! My 7-year-old son is obsessed with it! There are some awesome, immersive experiences, like building a custom droid, making a handbuilt lightsaber, and even visiting Oga’s Cantina! And, of course, he won’t want to miss testing out his piloting skills on Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run

Lastly, don’t forget to ask a Cast Member for your complimentary “1st Visit!” buttons!

Please stop by with any additional questions you may have… I’m all EARs!
