Hi all, we will be visiting Disney World in October and have booked at Grand Floridian. Does one need a connecting room to make it easier with a 1 year old - especially when it comes to having the baby sleep etc?

    Hello Berdine! Welcome to planDisney!

One of the things I enjoy most about a Walt Disney World vacation is staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel. From the detailed theming, to the convenient complimentary transportation, to perks like Early Theme Park Entry, there really is so much value to being right in the middle of the magic. I am especially glad to hear that you will be staying at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. It is my personal favorite with its unmatched elegance, relaxing atmosphere, and easy access to the Magic Kingdom.

When it comes to traveling with a little one, whether or not you need a connecting room is really going to depend on your family’s comfort and sleep routines. My family has visited with our youngest at a similar age, and we found that staying in a Studio room worked well for us. Many of the rooms at the Grand Floridian have an entryway area where you can set up a pack and play, which helps create a darker and quieter spot for your baby to sleep. We also brought along a sound machine, which worked wonders in keeping nighttime noise to a minimum. While a one-bedroom villa will give you more space and flexibility, it is certainly possible to make a standard Studio work comfortably with a little one.

In my opinion, one of the best things you can do for a successful trip with young children is to make sure everyone is well rested. Of course, that includes nighttime sleep, but I also recommend building a midday break into your vacation. My family’s routine is to start the morning early in the parks, then return to the resort around lunchtime for a nap or some quiet time at the pool. After recharging, we head back to the parks in the late afternoon or evening, ready to enjoy the rest of the day. I find this rhythm helps avoid the late-day meltdowns that sometimes come with trying to go from rope drop all the way to fireworks without a pause.

I hope this helps as you prepare for your stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. If you would like more tips for traveling with little ones or recommendations for baby-friendly attractions and dining, I would be happy to share more.

    See you real soon,
    Brent
