We will be visiting Disney World during the week of Thanksgiving. Are there any special events going on in the park on Thanksgiving Day that cannot be enjoyed throughout the rest of the week?

    Hi Dana!

This is a great time to visit Walt Disney World. My family has been choosing this week over the last 39 years and find it to be the best option for taking kids out of school as well as the experiences we can enjoy while we are there.

The weather is so nice with a combination of cool and warm and there is little chance of the rain showers that beat down on the parks in the summer. Thanksgiving day is pretty much the same as any other day in the parks. The biggest difference will be that more restaurants will be offering the traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey and sides on that day. The Magic Kingdom will not have a special parade or holiday specific entertainment. It is not better to visit one park on that day over another during that week. All of the parks will be quite crowded starting on Thursday through the weekend as both destination travelers join the local crowds for some magic in the parks.

My family does enjoy having some special fun that day. We bring some large turkey hats and enjoy wearing them in the parks to bring a little bit of fun to our holiday. We have even had a Disney chef ask to purchase one of the hats so he could wear it that night. We made magic and donated one of ours!

Epcot comes alive the next day with the great Candlelight Processional starting their performances three times nightly to celebrate the Christmas holiday. The resorts and parks will be adorned with special decorations although you will see much of this during your entire stay.
