We are visiting Disney in September for 10 nights 11 days. We have the Deluxe Dining Plan. How in the world do you make reservations for so many days? What time do we make them for? I'm just afraid that we will be stuck planning around our dinners.

    Vicki:

The Deluxe Dining Plan isn't for the weary!  As you mentioned, you can end up either not using it to its fullest and wasting value OR spending lots of time out of the parks dining so you CAN get its full value.

A good compromise between time, value, and, honestly, a full stomach, is to use it for multiple two-credit dining experiences!  A few things to help you plan:
    1. Gratuity can eat your lunch on the Deluxe Plan.  You don't have to pay it for Dinner Shows. Keep in mind you'll have to pay up-front for these to make your reservation, but your card will be credited at the show when you present your Key to the World card and let them know you're on a dining plan. Another thought if you're concerned about gratuity: dine at Sci-Fi Dinner Theatre or The Plaza Restaurant where the cost of the food is lower.  In the case of Sci Fi, you're spending your credit more on the experience than the food.  At The Plaza, it's for their desserts....I think....but that's another story.
    2. Splurge often—if not daily—at a Signature Dining Restaurant.  Although there are a few in the parks, most are located at the resorts, and you can strategically dine at one close to your park each day. Citricos, Yachtsmann's Steakhouse, Jiko, Artist's Point, and California Grill top my list.
    3. Consider booking Character Breakfasts early in the morning at each park so you don't take so much time out of each park to dine during the day.
    4. On the days you double up your dining credits, use your two snack credits for breakfast or to bridge the gap between a Character Breakfast and an early Signature dinner.
I know it seems like a big bite to chew, but the Deluxe Plan will allow you to experience Disney on another level!  If you need more help selecting restaurants, let me know!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
