Hi Tara ~
I have visited Disney every month of the year and the weather is indeed hot in July. Going with the mindset that it will be hot and planning ahead can help. I provided another Guest with some
tips to beat the heat during the summer months that I think you will find helpful as well.
I wish I had an insider secret for you but Guests are typically chosen at random to be in parades. There are times when they may have a celebrity VIP visiting the parks that they ask to be the Grand Marshall for the parades but usually it is Guests that were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time that are showered in pixie dust.
If you want to increase your chances of being selected, I would plan to arrive at the park entrances super early. Show your enthusiasm by wearing ears or matching shirts. Smile big and be talkative and friendly to the Cast Members. In other words, draw some attention (in a positive way) to yourselves.
There is a great parade type experience that kids and adults are invited to participate in at the Magic Kingdom.
The Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party has floats that move down Main Street U.S.A. to the hub in front of Cinderella Castle. Once they are in position, Guests are invited to dance with the characters and other parade performers. It is a lot of fun for the whole family!
