Hi Lori,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I understand your resort dilemma and would love to offer a perspective!
Having stayed at both resorts, I will say that both are fantastic but distinctly different. If you want a more serene experience, I would choose Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter.
Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter is beautiful! I just returned from a visit to Disney's Port Orleans Riverside and we took several walks over to Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter while we were there. The grounds are gorgeous with lots of trees and bushes. It truly felt relaxing to return to the resort each day. I also love the food options at this resort hotel. And, finally, I must add that my husband and I stayed at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter on our honeymoon so that resort has special memories for me!
At Disney's Art of Animation resort, the decor is whimsical and large. Like most Walt Disney World resort hotels, Disney's Art of Animation resort is expansive so prepare to walk. The Big Blue Pool is amazing, however. This is definitely a kid-friendly resort hotel. The Little Mermaid rooms are super cute and comfortable.
Lori, given your granddaughter's age, I believe she would enjoy either resort. If you have not done so already, check out the
recreational activities at the Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter. The main pool is lovely with Mardis Gras themed decor!
Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
Donyell
