Hello Lina!
Welcome to
planDisney! I'm excited that your church group is journeying to Walt Disney World Resort together! My church friends and I love chatting about our favorite Disney movies and visiting the Parks with our families.
Walt Disney World Resort is such a special place to us and I find that many Disney movies and shows teach kindness, bravery, good triumphing over evil, and the value of loving family and friends. There are sorcerers and witchcraft in some movies and as a result, they are sometimes found in the Parks. However, it is not done in a way to showcase the goodness of darkness but how it can be overcome. A great example of that is my favorite nighttime spectacular Fantasmic! which plays at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Mickey Mouse is transported to the dream world and battles evil villains using his imagination. He at one point becomes the famous "Sorcerer Mickey" which hearkens back to the famous Walt Disney Production of Fantasia. (In reality, he was the apprentice to a Sorcerer.) There is a magical hat that provides the user powers and Mickey wears it to do battle against evil. There are some scary scenes with the bad guys that I do not recommend to sensitive viewers but the victory is splendid and triumphant. Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey can also be found for a meet-and-greet opportunity at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Meet Disney Stars at Red Carpet Dreams.
The Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is considered to be the first true Disney villain. She uses witchcraft to trick and hurt Snow White. I love how she is so beautiful initially and then transforms into an old hag to trick Snow White. The concept that our outer appearance does not reveal the truth within is so important to learn. She can be found at Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and during some parades such as the Festival of Fantasy Parade. She does not do any witchcraft but wears her character's outfit and looks stern. She also appears in Fantasmic! and briefly in the ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in her hag version.
In the movie, The Princess and the Frog, Tiana is transformed into a frog by an evil voodoo witch doctor named Dr. Facilier. He is a true villainous character who gets his proper punishment at the end for the evil he caused. Tiana is helped by Mama Odie, a voodoo practitioner, as well, who serves almost as a "fairy godmother" to Tiana and tells her to "dig a little deeper" inside herself to find the cure without using magic. She can be found in the brand-new attraction in Magic Kingdom Park called Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Guests are "magically" shrunk while they travel through the Bayou to meet up with Tiana for a big event. It's such a beautiful ride and the animatronics and scenery are so well done.
Lina, it is hard to answer your question as "magic" is an inherent part of Walt Disney World Resort. It is the underlying plot element in almost every Disney movie and how we translate all the good things we feel and see. Anyone can "have a magical day" with the hope that their day shines a little brighter with the light of their faith. I am emotional on some trips as I hold my kids and watch my favorite characters go on adventures, make friendships, find love, and get their "happily ever after." As Walt Disney himself said when dedicating Fantasyland, "Here is the world of imagination, hopes and dreams. In this timeless land of enchantment the age of chivalry, magic and make-believe are reborn and fairy tales come true. Fantasyland is dedicated to the young and the young at heart, to those who believe that when you wish upon a star your dreams do come true." I hope your group has a joyful time and is blessed with beautiful memories.
