We have visited Disney World many times, but not in a few years. We want to make sure we see all of the "new" stuff, in all four parks. How does the "Genie" thing work? What about 'Virtual Lines'? What's the difference?

Hello, Ellis and welcome to planDisney! How exciting that you’re returning to the Walt Disney World just in time to celebrate its 50th anniversary!

While Disney Genie is a new service, the theme of Aladdin abounds because Walt Disney World Resort might feel like A Whole New World to you!

First, Ellis, let’s talk about Disney Genie. This is a complimentary service through your My Disney Experience Mobile App that is designed to help organize your day based on your interests. For example, if you really want to ride (one of my favorite new attractions) Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney Genie should be able to predict when the lowest wait times will be for the standby line. Now, there are also paid upgrades available to maximize your time in the parks. The first is Disney Genie+. For $15 per person per day, you have Lightning Lane access to over 40 attractions across all four parks. There are also two attractions per park that are not included in this service, but available for “a la carte” Lightning Lane purchase. One of these attractions is Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, from my example above. If you have a busy day planned and don’t want to use Disney Genie’s suggestion of when to visit that ride, you can pay to skip the standby and hop aboard the train faster.

Ellis, as you’re dreaming about your Disney days and experiencing all the new attractions, make sure to read about the 50th anniversary celebrations. HERE you’ll find information about the newest attractions and nighttime spectaculars.

Finally, since you mentioned virtual queues, it’s important to note that at this time only Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure has the option of a virtual queue. The virtual queue for this brand-new attraction opens daily at 7:00 AM and you will need a Disney Park Pass reservation for EPCOT to join. I was able to shrink down to the size of a rat just a few weeks ago and loved experiencing Gusteau’s restaurant! Ellis, IF this attraction still has a virtual queue during your visit, I encourage you to open up your My Disney Experience Mobile App at 6:55 AM and click on the three horizontal lines in the bottom right hand corner. You’ll then see a screen where you can click “Virtual Queues.” From here you’ll be prompted to select your party and will be ready to refresh at 7:00 AM.

Ellis, I hope this helps as you’re looking ahead to your next visit. Before I wish you well, make sure to read all about the Disney Park Pass system as this is a new theme park reservation system that just debuted in 2020 and is vital to entering the park!

If you have any additional questions, channel your inner Remy and scurry on back to planDisney!
