    Would like to visit WDW in October 2013. Family of four with 5 yr old boy and 3 yr old princess. Step one seems to be determining where to stay. $ is important. Should we stay along monorail or close to MK since we'll probably go there most frequently?

    Your question is a little hard to answer.

    It really depends on how important it is to you to be close to the Magic Kingdom. I know people who always stay at the Magic Kingdom area resorts because of the ease of moving between the park and their room. That may be particularly important for you if your kids still need afternoon naps. All those resorts are fabulous, but among the most expensive.

    Our family usually stays at one of the value or moderate resorts, which still have all the Disney touches, because we prefer to spend more on signature dining and more frequent visits than on lodging.

    The trade-off, of course, is that the other resorts aren't as conveniently located to the Magic Kingdom, which is about a 15- to 20-minute bus ride from many of the less expensive resorts. A trip back to a more remote resort for a nap can take 40 minutes or more each way. Buses run about every 20 minutes..

    That wasn't an issue for us when our girls were small. They weren't big nappers and could usually sleep in the stroller if they got tired.

    Some of the value or moderate resorts, too, have themes that may be more appealing to young children than the resorts near Magic Kingdom. Caribbean Beach Resort, for example, has some Pirate rooms, and Port Orleans Riverside has some new Royal Guest Rooms themed around princesses and princes.

    The value resorts -- All-Star Music, All-Star Movies, All-Star Sports, Pop Century and Art of Animation -- all feature larger-than-life statues and decor with favorite Disney characters. The new Art of Animation's theming is especially striking.

    Sorry not to be more definitive, but I hope that gives you some things to think about as you assess how best to budget for your Disney vacation. Please let me know if I can answer any follow-up questions.
