1st visit with our 3 kids(3,5,7). Youngest turning 3 during visit. Going wk b4 Christmas for 4 days. Should we do all 4 parks? Ride recommendations? Dining? MVMCP? Trying to give all of us a good unstressful time & getting worried.

    Hiya Christine,

Welcome back to planDisney! A first trip to Walt Disney World Resort should be memorable for you and your little Mouseketeers, so making it as stress-free as possible is key. I’ve visited Walt Disney World Resort many times, but as a new momma, my planning strategies have centered more around ease and meaningful moments rather than bulk.

Christine, I know you’ve talked to my pal Matt about some must-do itinerary items, but I’m happy to add my recommendations for ensuring you can enjoy your trip with less stress. So because you are only visiting for four days, I highly recommend limiting your Theme Park days to 3 days and giving yourself a rest day at your resort. Doing a Theme Park each day is doable, but it can be a lot with three little ones! If you want to do all 4 Theme Parks, if I were in your shoes, instead of setting aside one Theme Park day for Magic Kingdom Park, designate that day for a half day at your resort hotel resting and then spend the evening at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Since you can enter Magic Kingdom Park as early as 4 pm with your event ticket, you will get all you need to get done with your littles, plus have the morning and most of the afternoon to rest. We always do this on party days, which helps keep us all happy and less stressed.

Now if this seems like a lot and you prefer to do only three days in the Theme Parks, I’ve found that if we set aside one day for rest, my daughter tends to be happier and less fussy (which makes momma happier). My choices for Theme Parks typically center around what my daughter can ride/enjoy. For us, we always make sure to do Magic Kingdom Park (it has the most attractions for littles and is always so beautifully decorated for the holidays), Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park (the animals make this a must-do for me, and I find it to be a more relaxing Theme Park), and either Disney’s Hollywood Studios or EPCOT. If your children love Star Wars and Toy Story, do Disney’s Hollywood Studios. My daughter is about to be one and loves Toy Story Mania! EPCOT is excellent because of the International Festival of the Holidays, but I find that smaller children get bored more quickly there.

Regarding dining, for your littles, I cannot recommend enough reserving at least one character dining experience (such as Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White, Chef Mickey’s, or Hollywood and Vine) during your visit. I know that character dining can be pricey, but in my experience, it is worth it. You can enjoy a meal while they are distracted by the characters, and because there are so many other little one’s around, you feel less stressed if they are a little noisy. Plus, the photos you get from them excitedly point out that their favorite character will warm your heart. There are a lot of character dining experiences to choose from, and I would be happy to help you pick the right one for you and your family if you would like. One word of caution, though, try not to schedule a table service dining location for every meal. You will feel like you are on a time crunch trying to juggle all those reservations each day. My perfect number is no more than two dining reservations daily!

I can share so much more (especially about ideal attractions based on the parks you want to visit, dining, and Disney Genie+ services) Christine, but I'll pause there. Please come back and see me if I can answer anything else. I want your children to have a magical vacation, but I also want you to have one. I’m here if you need me.

    Happy Planning,

    Ashley F.
