Can I visit Fort Wilderness and do some of the activities even if I am staying at a different resort (Shades of Green)?

Hi there, Megan, and welcome back to planDisney!

First of all, thank you so much for your service. My husband served, too, and we can’t wait to stay at Shades of Green soon. I just know that you are counting down the days until you visit Disney World again with your family. Every visit seems to be even more magical than the time before. As a Disney fan who lives super close to our Happy Place, I am just your gal to answer your question about hopping over to another Resort hotel.

Your family can most definitely visit another Resort hotel while on vacation at Disney World. Keep in mind that only Guests staying at the Resort hotel can use the swimming pools.

If you have your own vehicle and don’t want to take bus transportation, the easiest way to park at Fort Wilderness is to have an advance dining or activity reservation for a Fort Wilderness experience. In that case, you would let the parking attendant know that you are there for your reservation and they will ask to see an identification card before letting you park near The Outpost. This is where you’ll find the internal bus system that can take you around the campgrounds.

If you don’t have a reservation, I suggest asking the attendant if it’s okay to explore the property (this is not a guarantee). You could also park in the parking lot of the Magic Kingdom’s Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and take a ferry boat or Disney Monorail to Magic Kingdom and then take a smaller water taxi over to Fort Wilderness.

The simplest way to get to Fort Wilderness, especially if you’re not driving, is to take a Disney bus to Magic Kingdom from Shades of Green. Then take a water taxi to the back of Fort Wilderness (The Settlement) or a bus to the front of Fort Wilderness (The Outpost).

AN EXTRA GEM: My family can’t get enough of Fort Wilderness’s Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue—its southern-style food, like the strawberry shortcake, is scrumdiddlyumptious. Your little one will love clapping along to the music and the older Mouseketeers will love the silly jokes.

Megan, I hope to see you again here at planDisney. Any of the panelists would love to answer the questions that you have before, during, and after your visit.

    Magic always,
